From easy valley trails and crystal-clear lakes to mountain trails and scrambles mean Salzburg Lungau really is the perfect alpine walking holiday destination!
Of course, you have to head up into the mountains for nature at its best, taking the hard route by foot or the easy route by ski lift or gondola. Just minutes from us, the St Michael yellow Sonnenbahn gondola takes you to Speiereck or ride the red gondola from Mauterndorf up to 2,000 meters above sea level.
Family fun and activities galore in Salzburg Land
Summer also marks the start of amazing family friendly festivals and wonderful activities taking place here in Salzburg’s Lungau including the spectacular Samson Parades with giant figures 6.5m tall and the magical Prangstangen Flower Festival! Adventurous kids will also love the ‘Outdoorparc Lungau’ included in your Lungau Card with its low and high rope courses, zorbing, kayaking, climbing and bouldering course.
Our local flat cycling paths are also excellent for all ages, with quiet open roads providing the perfect conditions for your younger cyclists to develop their confidence.

Castles of Mauterndorf and Moosham: A middle age expereince
The Middle Ages are brought back to life thanks to Mauterndorf Castle’s jousting area and a 44 m high defence tower, or their Knights and Princess costume making workshops. Or for something really spooky, visit Castle Moosham’s torture chamber and museum.
Ride a real narrow gauge steam train on the Taurachbahn. A trip aboard the Taurachbahn steam train through the picturesque Taurach valley is not to be missed, or why not enjoy the annual Lungau Family Festival during August, where bungee trampolines, climbing tower, archery, a quad course and face painting await all ages!
A day on the slopes in the family friendly ski region Grosseck-Speiereck
Grosseck-Speiereck are our closest mountains for skiing & snowboarding, and at a height of 2,400m it’s also the highest in the region, with reliable snow (and some excellent off-piste!) The Sonnenbahn gondola lift station is only a short walk or if you prefer, ski bus ride from the chalets and the bus stop is right at the end of our road. The local multi-lingual ski school ensure your children are kept happy, entertained, fed and watered and above all safe, which means you can relax and enjoy your holiday while learning to ski Austrian style, which is the best in the world, by the way!
